In a small town there was a famous poker player named Riley. Riley was known for winning high-stakes games but it wasn’t just his skill with cards that made him successful it was his ability to conceal his intentions.

During a major tournament Riley faced off against a newcomer who was determined to prove himself. The newcomer was confident believing that if he could read Riley’s hand he would win. Throughout the game Riley maintained a calm and confident demeanor even when his cards were not strong. His opponents unable to gauge whether he had a winning hand or was bluffing hesitated to challenge him.

In one crucial round Riley had a particularly bad hand but he bet aggressively as if he was holding the best cards. The newcomer convinced that Riley was bluffing decided to call the bet risking everything. When the cards were revealed the newcomer was shocked to see that Riley’s hand was indeed weak. But by then it was too late Riley had already won the psychological battle as the newcomer had played right into his hands.

Riley’s strategy was simple: by keeping his true intentions hidden he manipulated the outcome in his favor. In life as in poker concealing your intentions can give you the upper hand making it difficult for others to predict your moves.
